Because the number of humans is going up. Gays are just more visible now because the majority of people are no longer telling them to hide it/pretend to be straight.

Let't consider apparent and assumed mistakes of nature that persist through the ages to somehow have no net evolutionary harm, and perhaps even evolutinary benefit, to the species as a whole. What benefits a species to have such individuals, perhaps. Think on this and it may make some sense.
