Scotland is part of the EU, who is becoming more and more like a federation, uniting all of Europe. Scotland, if it seceded, would use the Euro, stay a member of the European institutions, etc.
The UK isn't a relevant way to group those countries any more. Scotland is a different nation than England, it should be a different state as well.
