The proposal has set off a firestorm, pitting LGBT groups against religious organizations that operate many homeless shelters.
“Transgender women are women regardless of whether they were born male,” said David Stacy, government affairs director at the Human Rights Campaign.
“If you’re a transgender woman and you walk into a homeless shelter and they treat you like a man, it’s traumatizing,” he added. “These people are already vulnerable, they’re homeless, they don’t have a job. To face discrimination the entire time they’re there is a real problem.”

Religious organizations see things differently.
Tim Wildmon, president of the conservative American Family Association, lamented having to “make room for people who are sexually confused at the expense of everyone else.”
“No one is in favor of beating up transgender people,” Wildmon told The Hill, “but why do you have to force other people to feel really uncomfortable, and in some cases unsafe, just to make your political point?”
“What if I self-identify as a woman today, and tomorrow I want to self-identify as a man?” he asked. “Why not self identify as a minority? Today, I’m white. Tomorrow, I’m black.”

The vast majority of homeless people are men and LGBT people. The vast majority of shelter funding goes toward cisfemale shelters and they get frivolous luxuries. I'm fucking glad a bit of that is being forcibly redistributed now.

Only because preops can't use a mens bathroom without being triggered or someshit. If trans folk just did what made them comfortable and werent so caught up on what society sees them as, i think they would be much more accepted in general.

Did you know that women have to pay ridiculous prices for hygiene products that cater to the specifics of their body? Males have a much more free wealth use because men dont have to fucking worry about bleeding every month, or balancing our ph(even though it is important in all human health, males suffer no odorous consequences)
There is a reason female care is more expensive then male care.
As soon as I inform anyone in a social services role that I identify as trans, they don't treat me different, they don't give me any extra privileges, offer no extra services. And I'm glad. I dont want to be treated different. Accept me for who i am, not what i am.
Also, i use the bathroom my genitals reflect because its funnier to freak guys out in that respect than it is to possibly scare a female, just because of my preferences

Indeed but there are a great deal more women's only shelters and most domestic abuse shelters are exclusive to women, with a few being coed and I haven't even heard of a male-only domestic shelter despite all the disowned gay teens from abusive households. I'm just glad the institutional sexism is coming to an end.

They'll almost certainly do just that if they find out the truth about my relationship. Hell they literally threatened to disown me and kick me out for good for staying the night at her house, and they don't even know she's planning on transitioning to female for fucks sake. It's a rather fragile situation but I have to bite my tongue to survive otherwise I really would be SOL.
