65daysofstatic are an instrumental post-rock band from Sheffield, England, most famous probably for their track Radio Protector, which has one of the great drum/percussion performances of the last 20 years.
For a long time now they've been working on the soundtrack to the video game No Man's Sky, and the result has finally arrived. 2 CDs of material, the first being actual song-type structures, and the 2nd disc long soundscapes.
The first disc is the better of the 2 with some really thrilling, driving tracks which remind me of their early albums The Fall of Math and One Time For All Time. Plenty of beautiful piano notes tracked over pounding rhythm sections. The band's usual 'trick' of build and release is employed a lot here.
The 2nd disc is nice enough but I can't think of too many situations where I'd sit down and listen to this kind of thing. Maybe if it were pouring with rain and I just wanted to stare out the window.
