it's a bad port (the pc version) + it has very little gameplay besides shallow crafting elements (which seem to be a fad in aaa games now), which wouldnt be a problem if the planets didnt feel so samey and there was more to do. exploration loses its charm when there isnt anything to keep you going. it's entertaining for perhaps 3 hours but the intrigue wears off very fast. if you're on the fence about this one, i suggest you pirate it first. $60 is a total scam

LGR says it doesnt get good until you are 20+ hours into the game.

i've worried it was going to be boring since i heard the planned feature set. same with elite dangerous. mile wide, inch deep. nothing to do and an infinite space to do nothing in. i haven't written it off since most of the launch problems are related to performance, which can be fixed, but if the gameplay is eternally boring then i'll skip it. i've heard it gets repetitive pretty fast. evidently all the AI are identical, so all creatures have the same behavior and it's pretty basic to begin with. same with planets, there's like 12 archtypes and they mix them around somewhat or something, so there's a lot less diversity than you'd think.
it's cool they made an endless procedural universe, same with elite dangerous, but it doesn't matter how big it is if there's no reason to stray far from where you start. especially if the universe doesn't have pretty remarkable diversity to discover. and even then, what's discovery without building upon it? just name a planet and a few critters and leave to do more of the same? i'm pretty sure there's more to do than just that, but it sounds like a very lonely game. same as elite dangerous.
big procedural universes sound good on paper, but in implementation they're turning out to be way less fun than curated universes.

yeah this sounds like a pretty version of elite dangerous
bummer. the concept would be cool if they at least gave you shit to do or made the gameplay interesting but its like playing with toy planes in my backyard. id rather play with toy planes in my backyard

no that is pretty much just it. i played it for a few hours and it's just boring. the first hour or two is cool, then it just repeats the same thing over and over. you have ship that you can upgrade, this means giving it more inventory. you have an exosuit that you can upgrade, this means giving it more inventory. you can discover & craft tech to apply to a ship/inventory which makes things slightly faster/better, but no real point to it after your first hour or two, it just makes you slightly stronger. also it consumes those precious inventory slots. then you can discover animals, planets, etc, but it's all pretty similar. yay you discover and name it, but there is nothing else to do. well, there is the plot to get to the center of the galaxy. i havent gotten there just, but googled and apparently the game ends by you creating a new galaxy somehow, winding up in there, and the game starts over

yeah, that's exactly the kind of experience i was envisioning when i read the planned features list. i'd heard about that ending the other day and i felt that if the ending is identical to just starting over then what's the point? just hit reset and pat yourself on the back for accomplishing nothing...

@previous (squeegee) well, you keep your inventory i think. "yay". it's supposed to be new game plus, but i don't get why not just warp to a random planet and there you go
