OK, thanks!

The central premise of the story is that virtually all fossil fuels have been depleted, leading to economic collapse & a Malthusian holocaust. The worldwide population has dropped to less than one billion, with most of the survivors packed into crumbling urban centers dotted along the coastal regions. There is a vast divide between the rich and the poor, as the upper classes still have access to higher technology, while the remaining 90 percent are forced to eke out a living in "Blade Runner" type ghettos. However, scientists have recently figured out a way to recycle humanity's wastes into a clean energy source, allowing for the partial return of public transport, electricity and emergency services.

With the development of this synthetic oil, "Waste Miners" are gradually forming a new middle class (something the Elite wishes to avoid at all costs), as the entire world is a vast dumping ground full of biological contaminants. The problem, of course, is that these "forbidden zones" are lethal to unprotected civilians, and the average miner can't afford the necessary bio-suits and breathing apparatus.

In addition to all of this, evolution had taken some unusual turns in the ghettos. By some unusual quirk of human biology, the ghettofolk have become impossibly strong and agile, almost superhuman in comparison to the Elite, whom they outnumber by ten to one. So far, the Government has kept them docile through public entertainment and chemical stimulants, but now they're seriously considering a general cull to prevent a potential class war.

Anyway, that's just background ifo. The real story focuses on a young man calling himself Redzone, a "midnight flier" from the ghettos. At just 21 years of age, he has attained an almost mythical status in the Westside due to his charismatic personality and trans-human physical abilities. A natural trickster, he constantly pits his formidable intellect against the Elite, exposing their schemes and machinations at every opportunity. This makes him unique amongst the normally apathetic ghettofolk: he is surprisingly well-educated and genuinely curious about the society in which he lives - Redzone understands that the world was once a much different place, and he wants to know how it came to be.

Needless to say, ideas of this kind are extremely dangerous to the existing Status Quo, and the Elite no longer regards him as a minor irritant. A bounty is placed on his head to secure his capture ... and Redzone must finally choose where his loyalties lie.
