I don't want a whole cake. Should I halve the ingredients, the baking time, and partition the cake tin?

Yes halve all the ingredients unless baking a San Berdino Half-Cake in which case you should always use the full amount.

Don't halve the cooking time, just check it every 5 minutes starting about then until it's done. I don't believe it's linear.

If the pan you'll use is half the size so the cake stays as thick, the baking time stays the same.

Just give some cake to someone
