Topic: Is Season 4 of American Horror Story ('Freak Show') worth watching?

Anonymous A started this discussion 10 years ago #54,307

I just realised I have it on DVD and have never got around to watching it, probably because I thought Season 3 ('Coven') was a huge disappointment. Is Freak Show worth the 700-minute investment?

Why don't you just watch it and decide for yourself? The fora is not here to cater to your every whim.

It's called asking for opinions and inviting discussion Doc, it's what message boards are for. They don't exist just for you to relieve the boredom and emptiness of your life by shitposting non-stop from morning to night.

Have you tried going to Google and typing in "Is Season 4 of American Horror Story ('Freak Show') worth watching"? Do you know how to use Google?

Even by your standards that was a pathetic edit.

Just fuck off from the site will you? You bring absolutely nothing to it. Go back to Tinychan, it exists for what you do.

Don't you think that you could have a better discussion if you actually watch the show first?

No, because the question is "Is the show worth watching?" What is it you're struggling to understand about this Doc? I think you've been isolated and cut off from normal human discourse for so long you've genuinely forgotten how it works.

It's a stupid question, which is why you are now having this discussion with me, rather than a productive discussion with members of the fora whom have also watched the show. Why are you being so difficult?

No you haven't, that link to your earlier post has nothing to do with the question I asked. Your link advises using Google, but as I've pointed out, I'm looking for the opinions and input of the people on this forum.

So try again, why is it a stupid question?

He could have just saved everyone's time, including his own, by performing a simple Google search. As a doctor, I'm starting to think that OP might fit at least some of the diagnostic criteria for autism.

But that makes no sense. He doesn't know the people who wrote the stuff that comes up on Google.

As a person suffering from autism, OP craves familiarity to a debilitating degree.

So I just watched the first episode. It's ok. Heavy on character-development, not much action so far. The clown character is fucking terrifying though, that's the best creepy clown make-up I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot of clown-themed horror movies.

Uh, so, if this getting back on the rails...

Yeah, I liked it. Was one of my favourite AHS seasons, come to think of it. If you liked the previous ones, you should like this.

I liked Season 1, LOVED season 2 (Lily Rabe's performance as the Satanic nun was amazing), and didn't much care for season 3 (good beginning, but the last few episodes just kind of fizzled out). So it's been an uneven show for me so far, interested to see how Freak Show fares.

So I'm 4 episodes in, and it's interesting so far. It isn't the slightest bit scary I have to say. The series succeeds in making you care about the characters far more than earlier seasons, but you never find yourself fearing for them. They seem to have gone for a more character-based series this time rather than shocks and scares. That brilliant evil clown character has just been killed off, so I'm interested to see which threat they replace him with.

All in all, it's pretty intriguing so far.

Just finished the season. It's a weird one. Very slow, almost plotless throughout. It's like an 11 hour David Lynch film, in that nothing ever actually happens but it has a creepy, uneasy atmosphere to it nevertheless. The massacre scene in the final episode was as chilling a scene as anything in all 4 seasons that I've seen.

All in all, probably the least entertaining of the seasons, but still an impressive and unique series with an oddly moving ending.
