I don't know or care if she did or not. I'd bet a substantial sum that neither Michelle Obama nor Melania Trump wrote their speeches. President Obama doesn't write most of his own speeches. Hell, Hillary Clinton doesn't even write most of her own tweets.

She explicitly said that she wrote it herself. Then the campaign came out and said that the accusation that she plagiarized was "crazy", and that Michelle Obama "didn't invent the English language" so the fact that there were similarities was easily explained away or not a big deal, but it definitely wasn't plagiarism, and oh by the way this is all being made a big deal because this is what Hillary Clinton does, she attacks other women.
And then of course the next day a staffer comes out and says they were the ones who plagiarized the speech and they offered to resign but Trump said no. The whole scenario is colossal mismanagement by the Trump campaign. Im sure he'd run the executive branch of the government well though lol. Fuck.

So the real issue is that she failed to credit her speechwriter. Melania's speechwriter plagiarized Michelle's speechwriter so really Melania didn't plagiarize anything.
I don't think Michelle Obama was ever specifically asked if she wrote her speech, but I'm pretty sure she never mentioned Sarah Hurwitz.
