Many years before this board started, a similar board called Tinychan was around. You might be aware of its modern incarnation? Sometime afterwards, a similar board called Anontalk was created by a strange man called Kimmo Alm.
Kimmo found Tinychan, and sent the TC admin a patronising email accusing him of copying Anontalk (which was untrue). The Tinychan admin, in response, modified Tinychan to look more like Anontalk, to mock Kimmo.
Years after that, Minichan was created. Kimmo, meanwhile, described Tinychan and then Minichan as "clone boards", for reasons I explained. Even today, users here and on Tinychan use the term themselves to mock Kimmo.

It was pretty hilarious how, after spamming the fuck out of 4chan, Kimmo was suddenly trying to strike a deal with moot for the two sites to link to each other.

That's only a very brief summary. Kimmo and his Anontalk site was possibly one of the most notable pieces of chan drama ever, and Anon D is probably right in saying that this community grew around trolling Kimmo.
