sweet! it came with the controllers didn't it? i got to play with a vive for 5 minutes at Dreamhack and it was pretty awesome. the resolution is quite a bit better than the Oculus DK2, but i can't say anything about the CV1 screen. the Vive was super lightweight too, it IS way lighter than the DK2. didn't get to wear it long enough to compare how comfortable it circulates air and stays cool. the oculus can get warm after a while and fog the screen like glasses in humid weather.
but i was very impressed with the handgrips and how they translate on screen with such low latency, the weight of the whole kit, and the (i forgot what it's called) virtual walls it shows you to identify where you are in real life.
one thing i will say is that using it while standing up and walking around was slightly disorienting. i didn't have a body to see in my peripheral vision and so i was just a disembodied head floating around with guns in my invisible hands. it made walking feel slightly odd. maybe a little stumbly? i was able to get around just find, but i felt like it was going to take a little getting used to. and really if the virtual horizon hadn't been just, like, rock fucking solid, then i feel like i would've been teetering around a lot and feeling like falling over. it could've been much worse, they've really got something working really well for standing up and walking around.

Nice. VR games seem to be going to some interesting places, I think there'll be some cool stuff coming for it.
I'm hoping to work with a Vive myself, when I go back to Uni. For my dissertation project.

yeah it came with the controllers. they are really good, the translation to VR seems to be pretty much 1:1. i loved popping balloons and slicing fruit with them, works super good and is really accurate. i do get kinda warm wearing the kit, but mostly from moving around. havent really had the glasses fog up i think.
i also did not think walking around with the vive was disorienting at all, just had to get used to not walk into walls and even that is fairly intuitive with the blue grid line things. the only disorienting thing is for hover junkers where you move around on a skid. i nearly fell over a few times at first because my body wanted to compensate for movement that didn't exist.
also my play area is slightly too small which hasn't been an issue for anything except hover junker since the skids have specific sizes. you can pick your own size, but im not sure which work yet.
anyway, rad.

what kind of nature? do you know what kind of vr simulations you will be using? or making yourself?

Myself and my project supervisor were thinking about underwater environments. There's been a lot of research into how people respond to them, so VR should build upon that nicely.
I don't know if I would have to help make a VR environment. Nothing like that was mentioned.
