i just started watching Black Sails and none of you bastards bothered to tell me how good it is. unbelievable. this is like the 3rd time i've found a show you bastards didn't tell me about. i'm getting pretty tired of this, you bastards need to be more forth coming with television recommendations. you bastards.

We want you to be surprised. If we just spoon-fed you all of the good stuff, you would lose the joy of discovery.

i'm really impressed with the sets. some of the acting is a little stilted, but the good actors make up for the bad ones. it's got a nice momentum to it, flows from episode to episode so you keep wanting to watch more. the plot isn't bad, but it's kinda tropey, "chase artifact X to track Prize Y, insert plenty of drama and conflict." typical "pirate" story, i guess, but for me it's the gritty atmosphere and dastardly plots that keep me watching.
i'm almost done with season one, it's pretty short, like 8 or 10 episodes. compared to a lot of shows i've tried watching lately it's a real winner.
i tried watching 12 Monkeys. it's... slow and doesn't get to the point. the movie is better.
i tried watching the Girlfriend Experience. it's alright. got a few episodes in and stopped liking the main character. she's very unlikable, which made me think i'd like the show, but then, no, there's nothing to like.
there's a bunch of other shows like Homeland, Da vinci's Demons, hannibal, (idk what else, there's a ton) and most of those don't outright appeal to me, or i've watched a little bit and got bored with them. i have no idea what's even good so usually i don't bother. i have to be pretty bored to hunt out a new series to watch.
i dunno if i'll watch all of Black Sail, but i'll finish this first season at least it looks like. might end up like House of Cards though, i quit watching that because i got tired of it.
so any suggestions about good TV would be welcome. there's just so much shit to wade through.

i watched season 1 of vikings, haven't gotten back into it. i agree, there's a lot to like there. the sets are amazing and the costumes are cool. the acting is pretty great too. not sure why i didn't get back into it, but it's one i keep threatening to get back to.

oh, have you seen Lucifer? seems like it's up the same genre-alley as preacher. i've heard that's good too. i'm not big on paranormal stuff so i haven't watched it, so i don't know much about it.

Oh it's a good show, very well made. If I had to describe it, it's more surreal than paranormal. Fast paced and full of surprises and no shitty cgi, with very little of it if at all....
