oh, we're well past the books now. i'm probably years ahead of any of the book readers. which i why i say it's super cathartic, so many unraveled threads getting stitched together. the books are a meandering mess, but the show has a laser focus on getting it done. and it's awesome.

people on reddit are saying some things. like the sword carried by Ned Stark when he went to see Lyanna (sp?) belonged to Sir Boyle or someone and it's made from a fallen star and it was bloody which is part of the Azor Ahei (sp?) prophesy that he was "born under a bloody star. So John Snow is the one spoken about. Then there's lightbringer, which gets "pulled from his lover's chest as a flaming sword" or something like that. so what i think is that the specially forged Valyrian Steel swords are made from meteor metal which is why they have their unusual appearance and, i guess, have some magical properties. my money is on John Snow and Dany marry and fall in love and that she ends up being stabbed through the chest by a valyrian steel sword and it imbues it with her inner fire or whatever and the sword becomes light bringer.
and i bet the sword is made by King Robert's bastard son, the blacksmith, from a newly fallen meteor and that the red witch has something to do with dany being killed with the sword.

i'm sure they're just speeding things up and skipping all that downtime as they travel. the books were meandering so hard while people aged and traveled and all that it's just a huge ordeal. the show is just speeding right along and skipping all that. i do agree though, they are either jumping back and forth in time to get all the scenes in, or they're just saying "fuck it" to shit like "months at sea", or "taking weeks to travel the roads."
it does make for a faster pacing though, which the books could have benefited from. i can totally see what GRRM is going for with his "meandering," it's all important overall, but the show is just pruning back a lot of it and really focusing on the core stuff.
i do love how cercei blew up the sept. they've been talking about the Wildfire underneath that thing for years and it was great to see it finally go off. Stephen King used to write about how it's bad to put a gun in your story if it never goes off, like the bomb that killed half of everyone in the Stand that were main characters. it was sad to see the gorgeous Marjory tyrell get vaporized by green fire, but it was beautiful watching Cercei go full Mad Queen and follow through with the threat made by the Mad King... the act that jamie killed him for before he could do it.

yeah, but not all of it. the huge storehouse under the sept was obviously still there. and if you'll remember from the books Tyrian had the alchemists making new wild fire. they had a special room and said the magical process was working mysteriously well, as if dragons existed again. that was right after dany had her dragons. so there was just a ton of it sitting around under the sept all this time.
