I wasn't planning on doing any more of these after I quit Tinychan, but this album has me excited and I know there are a few post-rock/post-punk fans here.
This 2-hour opus completes a trilogy of albums the band began back in 2012 with their masterpiece 'The Seer'. This new album - the band's last, according to Michael Gira - is every bit as mesmerizing as anything else they've done. Huge, crushing, hulking riffs. Thunderous percussion, grinding grooves. Just listen, for example, to the second part of the single 'When Will I Return?' (a song written by Gira about the sexual assault of his wife). Or the near 30-minute tracks 'Cloud of Unknowing' and 'The Glowing Man'.
It's a 10 from me. It's good and right the band are ending on this wonderful, beautiful note. If only all ends could be this gorgeously sweet.
