But who's the alternative? Labour is utterly disintegrating, at the moment. At time of writing, like half of their Shadow Cabinet have resigned to protest Corbyn's leadership, and several of his MPs are calling for him to step down.

There isn't an alternative. Brexit is unachievable without pain the country cannot bear, and Cameron has put the responsibility of telling everyone that on the Leavers.

That petition for a second referendum is up to three million signatures, now. And there's widespread reports of Leave voters regretting their vote. A poll conducted by the Daily Mail even found that 7% of Leaver respondents would vote Remain in a second referendum.
Maybe it's too much to hope for. But it would be great if the UK could back out before it immolates itself.

What happens now depends on if any of the leave politicians who will have the power to do so are happy to sacrifice themselves to do it. Nigel Farage would. I have doubts any of the others are, especially Boris. He was using it to aquire power, not lose it.
