Topic: Metæ And to All Brits - I voted for Stay in Eu. Last night I bet Cold Hard Cash Brits wood stay
Syntax started this discussion 10 years ago#53,219
Final polls showed a decent nuff margin to STAY - Betting Markets which was ALL the Markets were on the Stay side
Bookmaker.eu has set the odds: -350 that the UK stays in the European Union and +250 that it leaves.
How could I NOT add money to that pot - Making +$100 on a $350 bet
Yea I bet just a weeeee bit more but hey I also noticed Stock Market Futures were cool very cool on + side and at this very moment Eu is up on stock market and USA Stock market is not in panic
Running shoes on and going to spend a very few minutes Nude at Nude Beach n Swim with the Sharks in just my pure ole skin

How can you vote, you're an American you wrinkled old fart. Or have you stopped taking your dementia medication again? Maybe I should take bets on how long you'll live. I'll bet less than a year.

Is it the final resounding victory for Matt Miller that, while he is now a successful businessman in a foreign land, his old nemesis Syntax is reduced to gambling his pension away online?

The polling information is already priced in to Betfair. Reading polls then going to Betfair is like trying to beat the market by reading the Wall Street Journal. You're risking $3.50 to win $1.

lol, you lovably confused old codger! Bookies have a vested interest in people betting money which they will then lose. Therefore it's not a good idea to get your predictions from them.

I sure hope I am not nor end up being addicted2. Wayyy b4 your parents were born Hughes Aircraft Company used to fly the R&D engineering team to Vegas. Just seemed like I could not lose but I also limited myself to around $2000 a day for the two day trips. Friends who lost their betting money - I just handed over cash without counting what I was handing over.
HOWEVER Couple of years later I get married and on a trip through Vegas on way to Death Valley - I went to show my bride how easy it was to gamble - I did not win nor lose and worked my ass off consistently getting no where - Just came out even hour after hour and it was NO FUN! That was the very last time in my life where I gambled in a casino (super minor exceptions) I did try again like in Atlantic City and only played slots and filled cups up with winnings and was so board I gave the money (probably only $35) away to first couple coming down a stair case.
Politics and Nate Silver got me into Online fun back in 2008. It just seemed like child's play. I still do not understand why its SO EASY to make money on stuff I care about.
@694,631 (Green !BEERiVqJJw) > How can you vote, you're an American
Good question VERY Good Question. Details of how I do the Online Legally and its very Illegal to bet online in USA - I wood have said of course I cannot vote - YET I CAN Greatly effect the vote, which I cannot do in USA - How? Hold on as I splain it to William !KieUG1WfLM in a few seconds

As you are well aware Reading Polls is just as important as it is to go to 538.com Nate Silver - As with Clintons HUGE Win in California vs the up2moment polls all WITH THE SAME EXACT Results showing Clinton just above margin of error in a neck to neck race with Bernie. Nate gave Clinton a MUCH Larger Margin. Betfair gave her an even bigger Margin and Clinton final results are still not in so I have to wait to show you how close Betfair came - Last I looked it was VERY Close.

I am not going to disagree with how bookies play it. After all they need to keep their wallets filling with Cold Hard Cash. Betfair is NOT you typical Bookie operation. The way they have set it up, they have little to none influence BUT They Could. I can only look at 8 years and Compare my Go2Guy Nate Silver 2 Betfair. Shocking Super close accuracy 2008 &2012
All that said there CLEARLY IS Betting MARKET Manipulation going on in UK NOR is it by the Bookies.
Green if you read this you can see IF I wanted to nor did I, I could have DONE Something which amounts to Voting in Brexit with the power of 100's of people
Did A £25,000 Bet On "Remain" Send Trillions In Assets Soaring
UK betting lines equates to "high risk of mkt manipulation" adding that one could move $10 trillion in global risk assets with £1 million bet.
Matthew Shaddick, the key catalyst that moved bookie odds on Monday morning, the first day after the suspended campaign in the aftermath of Jo Cox murder was resumed, "we took a £25,000 bet on Remain this morning which helped move the odds in their direction." This in turn unleashed a global asset surge, as markets rebounded on expectations the Leave campaign was losing momentum, even as actual polls - still neck and neck - did not validate such an observation.
Earlier today, Bloomberg confirmed as much:
Investors are piling money into bets on a victory for the “Remain” campaign, led by Prime Minister David Cameron. The pound has surged to a five-month high and European stocks just posted their biggest three-day gain in almost a year, with the U.K.’s benchmark index erasing its monthly decline. Bookmakers have shortened their odds on a vote to stay.
Polls, meanwhile, say the race is too close to call after a swing toward the “Leave” campaign came to an apparent halt last week following the murder of Labour Party lawmaker Jo Cox, a supporter of staying in the EU.
“Rising anticipation that ‘Remain’ will win the vote is driving the market,” said John Plassard, a senior equity-sales trader at Mirabaud Securities in Geneva. “Even if polls are close, people are paying more attention to the bookmakers because that was a much better predictor in past referendums.”
Talking to CNBC, Shaddik quantified the latest odds, which not surprisingly, put Remain's chances of success some three times greater than those of Leave: "at the moment, the odds are suggesting there is a 76 percent chance the U.K. will vote to stay in the European Union", once again caveating that this is "despite the polls still showing this is more or less a dead heat."
But is that really the case?
When one looks at the actual dynamics within the bookies, an odd divergence emerges. As Shaddick said, when looking at the underlying flows determining bookie odds, there is a very clear divergence when it comes to number of bets versus the amount of any given bet: "Although Ladbrokes has received a higher volume of bets to leave the EU, those making a punt on remain were placing higher financially larger.
Shaddick revealed the average stake on a bet to remain was £450, compared to £75 on a bet to leave."
the average stake on a bet to remain was £450, compared to £75 on a bet to leave." the average stake on a bet to remain was £450, compared to £75 on a bet to leave."
In other words, a few large bettors are skewing the bookie odds dramatically in the favor of Remain, even as the mass of bettors is betting on Leave, albeit with smaller cash amounts. Another way of putting it: a substantially outsized influence by a wealthy minority over the poor majority, just like in every other aspect of life.

I tripled down on the Key to how NOT just Investors but hummmmmm Just Wot IF? Current UK Gov decided to open up wallets and help rig the Market?
I said I was not going to bet on Brexit. I just could NOT see a way to stay out - Sure its going to be about 12 or so hours b4 the count comes out - AND Sure I could Lose BIG
Will just take money from my betting pool and not be able to have as much fun on USA election
A reminder ITS Illegal for US Citizens to place bets on line with minor exception. Nor will Betfair open an account for USA Citizens. There is of course Exceptions to everything.
Betfair will take bets from USA Citizens who have a home address outside of the USA and A Bank account outside the USA. Funds from that bank or several banks can fund some fun. Of course Loosing is an option in any game anyone plays
Moments ago Ladbrokes confirmed as much when it pointed out that while the probability of Brexit remains at only 24%, two thirds or 62% of all bets being placed today are for Leave, the same as yesterday.

It's important to note bookmaker "odds" don't necessarily have anything to do with actual odds of an event occurring. The bookmaker needs equal money on both sides, and adjusts the odds until the money on each side is equal.
Syntax, while we're on the topic of strategies look up Long Term Capital Management - hedge fund created by MIT/Harvard econ Ph.Ds, one Fed vice chairman, one Nobel Laureate, well respected in biz with strategy guaranteed to win, GREAT returns until it blew up in their faces wiped out investors and required Fed bailout.

I thought I made something clear. Clearly I failed.
I am NOT supporting all bookmakers odds. And perhaps you are not aware Betfair is not really a Bookie in the classical sense.
Betfair is an Exchange. It does NOT depend on equal money on both sides EVER. Betfair is HUGE HUGE A MONSTER and more Equal to Stock Market in Eu and Its a publicly traded company on the London Stock Exchange
They are as Solid as the Rock of Gibraltar. (Run out of there for tax reasons) Five million or so customers
The cash they take from me. to use them for online fun is a lot cheaper than any bookie. Its good I do not use them except during USA election cycle or otherwise they wood take a lot more money for my using it. Short term players end up charged from 2 to 5% but a regular player gets hit up for like 20% of profits. Bookies of course take one consistent cut
The Queen herself Likes Betfair. Of course as with any company Betfair has fucked up a few times. They are still in the Horse racing biz so please do not buy Trump Steaks from them unless Horse meat is...Nuff said about Horsemeat
I have to head off to a Beta Cell test site to see why a bunch of Orthogonal channels/OFDM are missing from Hardware. Software says Make channels, Hardware makes 2/3 of those necessary
When I return I will look up LTCM - Me thinks in past I have
