got discharged a little earlier. technically my insurance company discharged me because i happened to be at an out of network hospital. more technically they said i could be either discharged or transferred to another hospital if i felt like i needed another day of in-patient treatment. i chose discharge, i think i can out-patient it from here.probably going to end up having to have surgery but nothing can be done for a couple of months at any rate. we'll see what this time cost me, the last time i was hospitalized it cost me 3500 bucks out of pocket. that was different insurance, so maybe this time will be less of a burden. we'll see.
but i am feeling better, still got a fair amount of pain and have a heavily restricted diet, but i'm home and showered and high on marijuanna and narco.
thanks to everyone who wished me well, and thanks to everyone who didn't. you all made me smile and gave me a welcome respite from discomfort. and thank you also to those that wished me dead, it really strengthened my resolve to survive and live to troll another day.

yeah, i mean i can't complain, they basically saved my life both times. it was pretty much just an infection and if it had gotten too severe i'm guessing that's the kind of thing that can kill people? so they put a stop to it very quickly and made me as comfortable as they could. If anyone here is ever laid-up in dallas and needing to find an ER go to UT southwestern. they're great. impeccably clean and the nurses were all outstanding. it's a teaching hospital and part of the University of Texas medical network, and so i did have to deal with a few students and their sloppy IV lines and one woman entirely skipped a step in her procedure that led to a failure to draw blood. she brought in her "partner" to draw the blood and i witnessed him do the missing step (basically she tried to draw blood directly from the butterfly needle into a sample container and skipped the step of drawing the blood with a plunger tube and transferring it into the sample container.) kinda funny.
aside from that it was as comfortable an experience as i could have had considering. i also had, like, zero wait when i arrived. usually i get triage for a few hours, then a bed, and don't get in to see a doctor or nurse or anyone for even longer. but this time i went in and there was kind of a scramble to get me admitted. i did go in and tell them i was under the care of my doctor and doing out-patient treatment and they told me to go to the ER because i was getting worse. i think that might have ticked a few boxes or something, cause they got me in real quick and started calling my primary doctor and find out what was going on with a cat scan.
pain drugs i didn't get till after i produced urine, which was rough because trying to even piss caused tremendous pain and i was dehydrated as fuck. but i think they wanted to drug test me before going on narcotics, especially since i said i hadn't been taking any. not really even sure if they did drug test me, all i know is that about 15 minutes after i pissed for them i was on deluded. and i'm pretty sure that one nurse did tell me that they could get me pain meds as soon as i could get them a urine sample, presumably because they didn't want me to stumble and fall while woozy on drugs and trying to get to the toilet. but i had a urinal deal... so, i think they probably drug test to help weed out drug seekers. i was in complaining about soft tissue pain with no obvious external symptoms aside from pain, after all. my temp was never even elevated. but, i had been on antibiotics for almost a week already.
anyway. that might be a protip to remember in the future, if you're going to the hospital try and hydrate on the way so you can piss for them quickly.

That's almost unheard of here, so yeah, I'd say that's a plus.
Mistakes like that are common, especially if they're inexperienced, or just developed bad habits while cutting corners.
An ER will always do a piss test unless a patient is just incapable of it for w/e reason. They're looking for illicit drugs among other things before they dope you up.
I'm just going to throw out septicemia? Which could've been caused by any number of infections that progressed long enough.

Most of the world knows by now that while America offers some fantastic healthcare... our healthcare system still sucks. You have to figure a hospital stay is generally running $1.5-2k+/day. So 3.5k isn't terrible out of pocket.

idk if it was actually septicemia, but the surgeon i spoke to said the infection had maybe ruptured my intestinal lining and caused a bunch of associated pain and swelling and generalized abdominal pain as well as acute pain where there was a rupture. pretty much the cat scan showed an acute infection of a preexisting condition and a bunch of additional swelling in adjacent tissue. it's actually something i've been warned about, which is why as soon as the pain got worse i went to the ER immediately.

i do feel better, thank you for asking. i had a lovely view, actually. the area just on the north side of the river. everything was low, and lots of trees. i was up on the tenth floor and felt perched on top of a green jungle full of tiny houses and the local budweiser distribution center. and i enjoyed the staff, everyone was very kind and utterly helpful. even the dudes that delivered room service were cool.
healthcare in this country can be expensive and burdensome at times, and it's not perfect, but hospitals have come a long way in comfort since even the 90s. i mean, my room was more hotel with in room concierge drug service than sterile hospital dosing out meds. private room, lovely view, got pretty much anything i asked for excluding a handjob.

Definitely do it, especially if it can be fixed with keyhole surgery or if it's something that'll pop up again if you don't have the procedure. Besides it sounds like your insurance isn't too terrible and going under the knife has improved a lot over the years. Maybe they'll use a Da Vinci and then you can say a machine cut you up while you took a nap one time after you were drugged.

it's like an ulcer, and it needs to be removed. they gave it a fancy name and told me to eat a healthier diet and that most people don't have problems but some do and have surgery to prevent acute symptoms. i've been eating healthier for a few years but i keep having complications that put me on antibiotics and now into the hospital again. i am now a candidate for my insurance company to probably pay for me to elect to have it corrected, and so now it's being offered to me with the apparent agreement of all my doctors. previously they only offered me the dietary option, and insisted i was young and ready to rock and roll. probably because the insurance was a no-go for surgery. now it is costing them money at a predictable rate, and surgery is now on the table to try and stop further complications. the doctors know it, and i they're all pretty much like, yeah do it. they even lined me up a whole schedule of follow ups approved by the Ins company (i'm assuming, i still need to verify) that'll end with me having surgery. i'll have a choice of GI for one of my consults, so i may go out of their medical network for that.

So you squeegee can't just get the common everyday Ulcer. you end up with extra fancy kinda. Damn - I assume by now have done exhaustive net research on your condition and have a good I idea of or if there are alternatives?
Decades ago after my Dad had his first heart attack and that was just b4 internet, I made appointments with multiple docs and concluded that wood happen to ME as well cause of genetic need to keep getting pipes cleaned - I said No way and hit UCLA Med library and buried myself for self cure. Change of food and added exercise have kept my pipes super clean.
Ulcers used to kill many. That was before they discovered the true cause of. A prospective Mother in law, I was visiting with back in still late teen years. Lunch visit when her daughter was still in high school classes. She says she has to go in for 24 hours for Ulcer tests in Hospital. She did and that was the end of her life.
