Many of the patients they deal with are so extremely schizophrenic or bipolar as to need such monitoring and I can assure you that staff, especially nurses, do virtually no work especially on night shift. This gives them opportunities to look at patient's Facebooks (when public). I know because Anne-Marie, another nurse there, once spoke (and she was one of the far lesser callous ones) about looking at such.
I don't imagine this new ward I've just been discharged from to be any different.
