In other news some Greek guys have invented a circular object they're tentatively calling a "wheel".

I love how the BBC calls it the "worst mass shooting in recent US history."
> recent

He's also a registered Democrat apparently http://voters.findthedata.com/d/b/Omar-Mateen. He called 911 to pledge allegiance to ISIS before he started shooting, but I doubt he's affiliated with ISIS in any meaningful way.

No, but the following are my wild-ass guesses about the shooting: I bet he was not motivated by Islam in any way or "radicalized" by ISIS or anything. I think he realized he could use his ethnicity to get more attention by calling 911 and pledging allegiance to ISIS. This is tremendously counterproductive though because it plays right into Trump's talking points* and will fuel Islamophobia, but he didn't think it out that far (or doesn't care). I think the gay club was picked for the same reason, since it would get more media attention.
I also bet he was on several prescription psychotropic drugs, which seems to be common in mass shooters. Sadly, the "solution" will be more mental health treatment (read: psychotropic drugs).
*I disavow Trump's anti-Muslim rhetoric.

They're saying now that the FBI had been investigating him since 2013

Autism and mass shooting is not the kind of comorbidity you would see at the occurrence of that between, say, ASPD and mass shooting. The autists who do so, rare as they are, tend to have underlying issues (BPD, bipolar, NPD like Rodger may have had, etc.).

The Tsarnaev brothers were on FBI lists, too. What's the point of these watchlists and surveillance state, if they can't prevent crimes??
