Occult, in the Humean (as in David Hume) continental, classical philosophical sense, means, literally, that which can't be evinced. It is esoteric as opposed to exoteric. Eso meaning 'from within', although its meaning is often misunderstood simply to mean 'arcane' without context as to why (individual variation in ability to internalize abstract thoughts). Most magic is just a tricky way of unlocking latent spiritual potential in its external transposition, but this comes after the occultic training.
