I think "faggot" will become the new "n-word" in a few years*

*I mean it will be a word you CANNOT say in public if you are not gay.

I hear it and use it often. Also I do. Thanks.

You can't say "nigger" in public if you aren't gay?

Metæ replied with this 10 years ago, 4 minutes later, 34 minutes after the original post[^] [v] #689,216

You can't say "nigger" in public if you're not black. I think in a few years (if not already) it will be unacceptable to use the word "faggot" if you're not gay. That's what I mean: "faggot" will be to gay people as "nigger" is to black people.

No I know what you meant. The way you phrased it just could lead one to that conclusion and I was amused. Thanks.

You left out the most obvious word.

It's nigger

"Nigger" was in common use until relatively recently. It's never been considered obscene in the same way that the word "fuck" is.

@OP
> arse/ass
correct
> arsehole/asshole
asshole is still generally considered obscene in publicly broadcast media
> bastard
correct
> bitch
somewhat correct. it became more common about 10-12 years ago, but social justice is making it less acceptable for a character to call someone a bitch on publicly broadcast media
> bugger
generally correct, although probably due to it's fall in usage on account of harsher words becoming more acceptable
> fag/faggot
actually, this ones seems to be going the opposite way. like nigger, fag used to be a general term. it has been more and more stigmatized as homosexuality become more acceptable. keep in mind that while it means nothing to call a chan user a fag, people outside of chan culture would still react to it
> poof/poofter
this is nearly a dead word. I think it refers to gays but I've never really heard or seen it used so I'm not positive. poof is also an onomatopoeia which has been used in various forms of comics for decades to refer to something disappearing suddenly
> skank
elderly people might still consider this somewhat shocking, but I wonder if younger people would even know what it means
> slag
unless this is intended as some sort of euphemism, I don't know why slag would be considered offensive
> slut
social justice has done a lot to dull the impact of this word
> whore/ho
somewhat correct. ho is fairly new and I don't think there are any broadcast rules against it. whore is in a limbo of sorts; I don't think you can say it in a song on the radio, but it seems to be okay on TV as long as it refers to the "profession" and not just someone who is loose

> cunt
partially correct. I think in Britain cunt is about on par with shit in that it is considered rude but it generally won't get you into any trouble socially most of the time. in the US it's stigmatized more as hostile towards women regardless of context, and banned from usage on publicly broadcast media.
> piss
correct
> shit
also in a bit of limbo, some radio stations get away with not censoring songs with one or two instances, but you can't say it on public television (in the US at least), and the censorship on cable television varies even between shows on the same channel
> wanker
more of a British word. I don't think it gets censored on US media, but it's so rarely used that the relationship can't be established as far as I can tell

@689,235 (A)
correct. while banned from radio and censored on most television shows, it's mostly at the discretion of the broadcaster. PBS does not censor the use of nigger in historical documentaries or interviews.

@previous (hamfist !0Ynig1RSDc)
> cum
while acceptable on the internet and in conversations among peers, it's not typically permitted on publicly broadcast media. although I think some musicians deliberately spell it "come" in lyric booklets to try and slip past radio censors.
> semen
mostly correct. while considered unnecessarily forward or inappropriate in formal conversations, it's considered acceptable to use in crime shows as technical enough, but more audience-friendly that the other technical word "ejaculate"
> jizz
I think most people stop using this word when they graduate high school. adults seem to prefer the word cum

also, crap
