From my experience over many versions - That is not what it is for. Its for cleaning junk out of browsers and has several useful features BUT you must be careful to look at each box and uncheck what you do not want cleaned. Otherwise it may remove cookies you want to keep. Its supposed to be intelligent - So they say, and its not supposed to clear cookies on key web sites. MC is not included so if you are not careful well just look at the options and check and uncheck boxes one at a time - It by default will also clear all of your history. If you want to keep history just unclick the box

In now way is CC a virus program. You do have one of those? I also find that Malwarebytes catches Malware that the virus cleaner passes by. I can go months between getting any and then decide not to use it very often and the next time I do - I got Malware - always listed as low level but still the program is free and fast

I just ran mine - My program is out of date because its been lots of months since I last ran it - It shows me I have boookooo Gigs that are of no use to me - So you just got me to go and update my CC and run it
Just down load CC and look at all the check boxes and decide if you want to keep history - cookies etc and Analyze and decide - I have been using it less than Advanced System Care because a couple of years ago CC glitched on me and cleaned stuff I had told them not to clean - unchecked box glitched and became checked - Perhaps they in later versions fixed that?
Bottom line Cathy is - You Analyze look at results and you are free to say hell no and just not use the clean function

When I was a kid I used to fuck around with registry cleaners and ended up really messing up Windows a few times. This was back in the XP days. I never saw any benefit from using them and so I don't.

I should have added - No need to let CC clean the registry. We used to do that when we had minimal disk space. Now with almost unlimited space the small files windows uses for registry and yes its still a huge amount of bloat registry uses (Bless UNIX- LINUX for having no need for anything like that) Just no need to touch registry.
Now that I know exactly why you were concerned and what you were trying to do - CC would not be able to detect the latent files left over and no longer needed. Not from my experience.
So next time do this instead
Download 10 bit Uninstaller 5.3 and or Revo Uninstaller. Both are much better than anything that comes with your computer. Both will Uninstall every trace of a program you have loaded on your computer. The reason I say one or the other which in my case is both - You will discover that just one may not detect every program you have installed - With both you can find everything - Process for Uninstall is easy and they give you a choice of deep cleaning or light cleaning.
The only way you can get rid of what you now want to get rid of is to re-install the program and then do a new Uninstall because that way the program will remove the new full install as well as all traces of the prior Install.
I recommend Cnet for the programs and again be careful because Cnet and everyone else tries to give you other programs for free - Just look carefully at each step as you install. When given a choice always choose custom install. That way they cannot sneak bonus junk you way.

Backup your files, bud. Then you won't have to worry about it. Although I never had any issues with CCleaner in the past, but I haven't used it in the last couple years.
