Topic: Language boffins: Why do USAmericans spell "thceir" as "their"?

Since, as any schoolboy can tell you, in USAmerican English, "I" goes before "E", except after "C", should not "their" be spelled as "thceir"? Shall we reform this linguistic inconsistency?
