i think its dumb. read what you want. if male authors write more that appeal to you then whatever. i mean yeah its sexist if you think literature written by women shouldnt be taken seriously just because a woman wrote it but i dont think thats the case. either way, i try to diversify my literature but im not going to strain my neck making sure everything is unproblematic

also i think a lot of what appeals to the reader comes down to cultural experience which gender plays a large factor in. i wouldnt blame a woman for not reading like, don delillo anymore than i would blame a guy for not reading margaret atwood

i think it is not really active sexism but just that most popular authors tend to be male (is this a product of societal sexism? maybe, probably). like nobody's going to examine their bookshelf and go "hmmm not enough female authors here"

Now this one is interesting, because if you misgender a trans person they get very upset which means... there is some truth in that being called the other sex is insulting or trans people are over reacting when mis gendered. Oh, it's so confusing.
