Topic: Looks like I know where that image was taken.

This image that Syntax posted in another thread claiming that it is only a few miles away from where I reside.

If this is a shot of the High Desert then how come it was on a San Diego travel resource website?

I remember I asked Syntax exactly where it was taken and he never answered.
So I just ran across this one when I went to that site looking up attractions for San Diego.

Actually I was fully aware of where that photo came from and I was a bit miss-leading as to location. I think I even said it was a bit north of you.

Where you live its really really difficult to find much that is worthwhile near where you live. One can find small patches of interesting images but as you are aware because you have gone out to shoot photos -

You do have a lot of interesting rocks near by

It's not north of me though, it's actually south of me. It's below the Palm Desert which is southeast of the High Desert.
According to the map that travel destination site provides.

Flower theft has created a thriving black market which has a direct impact on both the environment and legitimate florists. Known as back alley florists, these criminals take flowers from public, state, federal, and private land, then proceed to sell them individually or in bouquets, sometimes brazenly in open-air markets, but more often than not through underground channels. Their largest buyers tend to be tourists, men 'in the dog house', and middle aged women generally affiliated with scrapbooking gangs.

Perhaps these thugs and those that support the continued trade of illicit flowers would do well to heed the words of Osho:

“If you love a flower, don’t pick it up. Because if you pick it up it dies and it ceases to be what you love. So if you love a flower, let it be. Love is not about possession. Love is about appreciation.”

He's only wrong about Anza-Borrego Desert State Park being North of me. I'm actually North of it, as this is South of the Palm Desert which encompasses the communities of Palm Springs and Indio. I am actually Northwest of these communities, to correct myself from earlier.

In fact I was wrong on purpose. Anza-Borrego is a terrific place to day hike. Winter EARLY Spring months - NO PLACE 2B in late spring summer unless you want to fry the body at 120 degrees.

Has several Oasis's and there is no one single photo that even comes close to showing the Majesty of THEM - Huge Palm trees and all fed by a sweet stream. This photo is taking so long to upload n me in from my Ocean a Blue - OK Uploaded

I grew up as kiddlet watching those old movies on TV - Cowboys n Indians. Most of them were shot in places like where Cathy lives. Old TV Star Roy Rogers ended up stuffing his dead horse and dog and putting them on display in a museum where Cathy lives - Some say he even stuffed his wife after she croaked (but did not display her to public)

Where Cathy lives is surrounded by lots of raw hard dirt desert - Its hard to find flowers but easy to find lots of outcroppings of rocks.

Flowers of all kinds are one of my most Fav things - finding them while hiking is always a treat - I believe as as you said
> “If you love a flower, don’t pick it up.

They should be left in place for others that come along. Bees to feed on and carry pollen so as to make more flowers. Other insects as well pollinate.

So back to whats near Cathy - Appears it takes about 1.5 hours of car drive time for Flora Fauna - For instance this is from the Mohave National Preserve

I want to go to Anza Borrego is it big and pretty enough to make a trip of it?

Syntax replied with this 10 years ago, 15 minutes later, 18 hours after the original post[^] [v] #683,173

@previous (button)
Hell YES its big - Gigantic - First trail for anyone to do is Palm Canyon - Just remember that when you get to the Oasis - that is the smaller of the two so you hang and enjoy the water and later move on to the upper one. From the start of the trail there are well marked descriptions of unique plants and cactus. A stream all the way - BUT of course this is a mean as fuck hard core desert.

If you have more time and do more that day -Assuming you start early enough and finish Palm Canyon - Well not finish because you could continue and climb up that mountain - Few do that

Back at the start of the trail You can and Me and friends do this all the time - Forget about any official trail from that point and just walk south across the desert - Very worthwhile

Hellhole Canyon is backed up against the San Ysidro Mountains just southwest of the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park Visitor Center in Borrego Springs. The ominously named canyon is home to Maidenhair Falls, a seasonal 20-foot waterfall that makes a refreshing hiking destination on a hot day in the California desert.

http://www.hikespeak.com/trails/hellhole-canyon-trail-maidenhair-falls-anza-borrego-desert/

There is of course an official trail to do this BUT far more better to just walk South of visitors center MUCH better than the official trail which adds unnecessary 3/4 miles and has more to view of value - You cannot get lost because as you continue to walk South you notice the flat desert starts to rise into a narrow canyon.

Massive number of trails and good places to camp out - BUT for sure check the weather forecast - NOT a place to be when it rains because it often floods something horrid with water crashing down the canyons - Nor a place to be in late May June unless its on the cooler side which is rare as fuck - Put this off until next year.

Keep track of the visitors center web page cause they give Flower reports much like for those on the East coast get Autumn color reports on every tv news channel

Checked distance time - 2 h 8 min (82.7 mi)
Nor can one just go FAST on hwy as except for a fast way to die that is not possible.
Usually its longer coming back because there are a couple of nice towns to stop by - Buy Apple pie or regular cider in fresh squeezed jugs.
