Topic: Chrome.. y u do dis?

Anonymous A started this discussion 10 years ago #52,251

Why does Chrome sometimes trash the contents of my tabs when I tab away?

If I wanted the page to reload when I look at it again I would have closed the tab...

Because you're running out of memory so chrome is discarding unused tabs: https://developers.google.com/web/updates/2015/09/tab-discarding?hl=en

You can disable it at chrome://flags/

You can see info about what is being discarded at chrome://discards

Interesting.

> Tabs sorted from most interesting to least interesting. The least interesting tab may be discarded if we run out of physical memory.

Would their idea of serializing tabs before discarding help with potential data loss?

Have you tried just not using a lot of tabs?

OP
Simple solution for you. If a tab is important to you or even very little important
Pin the Tab. Even in a crash, when you restore Chrome, the tabs will come back pinned.

It also happens with pinned tabs. Did you actually read the thread?

I sure did. Pin tabs will survive over them NOT pinned. And betting OP has junk never cleaned that is bogging down his system. Clean the system with enema (metaphorical equiv) and free up space.

So your point is really that ''The very very very very very last selected Tab lives and then the Pinned Tabs get the boot.

OK you win. However I really really really WIN cause OP was not pinning Tabs at all. So OP wood have not been so much so upset with loss of Tabs if OP had pinned Tabs to begin with.

I still think OP's device is got gunk in trunk and trunk needs to be cleaned of junk n cobwebs.

Over these many years which exceed anyone here many years I have owned or acquired on work loan (use) a mass of computers of multiple brands with all sorts of O/S - A mass of browsers.

My Sun work RISC-based work stations loaded with UNIX are virtually crash proof - of course as with any electronic device loaded with parts - a rare fail of a part will crash the Sun work station - Shit happens re MTBF. Pull hard drive and insert to other machine and all is totally cool over these many years.

Chrome installed on many a machine has been my 2nd most best and of course its cause its UNIX based - UNIX damn fantastic considering how fucking old it is.

Also notice OP failed to detail the device with problems. You should have come down on OP for so little information supplied.
