i'll start by saying that my favorite hero happens to be a female, so that one angry anon can go ahead and fuck right off. that said, Overwatch is going to be a home run for blizzard. it's a lot of fun for an arena shooter, and there is so much variety to the heroes that it's hard to not find something you like. it plays very much like a classic blizzard game, and it borrows mechanics from every one of their IPs. that's not a bad thing either, because they really cherry picked from the best ideas.
first and foremost are class divisions. in a very blizzard fashion the game is designed around tanks, healers, and damage dealers. it's not exactly groundbreaking, but it is well done. teams can form up any way and aren't required to take any specific role, you can go without tanks or healers, go all tanks, whatever. a well setup team, though, can hard counter the opposition by having a smart mix. my best games always involved at least one player fulfilling each role.
it's easy to play. you have 1-2 main attacks (melee, ranged, magic, ballistic, laser, etc...) and 1-2 utility abilities, and 1 special ability. interestingly enough, L-Shift (usually sprint in FPS games) isn't sprint; sometimes it is, but other times it's Dash, or Teleport, or Fly or something along those lines. some heroes don't have an L-Shift ability and lack mobility (think tanks) because of it. Utility abilities come is all flavors, some provide buffs, some are self heals, some are extra damaging abilities, some provide momentary invulnerability. the one special ability needs to be charged by doing something unique like collecting souls from the dead, or healing for a certain amount, or by dealing damage or getting kills. the specials are all kinda OP, some are "dead eye visors" that give a temporary aimbot, or reincarnation of fallen teammates, or some kind of super OP magic spell that 1 shots a field of vision. they're super fun to use, actually, and they way they are "charged" means the better you play the more frequently they'll be available. Utility abilities are mostly on short timers, and those can be pretty cool, but the specials can turn a game around.
i know there have been a lot of comparisons to TF2, but i didn't play that game a whole lot so i'll skip that debate mostly, but, i will say that the Heroes in Overwatch are way more fun to play than the TF2 heroes. and there are a whole lot more.
during the beta i mostly played healers. in WoW healing in stressful and boring, but it's far and away the most underrated role as far as successful raiding went. but, healing in overwatch was a blast. the healers are all very different from one another. only one of them is even remotely similar to the healer in TF2. they both use a healing stream to boost player health, but i think that's pretty much it. the overwatch healer named Mercy also carries a pretty stout little pistol, and can buff players to do extra damage, and her special is to resurrect dead teammates. another healer instead provides player buffs as his main ability, and damage mitigation as his utilities. his special is what allows him to provide healing. they couldn't play more differently. and each hero is like that, they are all unique.
we played on a limited number of maps during the beta, and i think there were only a couple of game modes in the queue. from what i saw, the maps are highly detailed and have a very nice and updated "blizzard style." it almost feels like a really polished modern day WoW without the MMO. which is interesting considering this games MMO roots. originally called project Titan at blizzard, overwatch is all we have to go off of to glean what the MMO would've been like. TBH i think what they don't tell us about project Titan is that it was an MMO for consoles, but they could never get it working correctly and turned it into a cross-platform arena shooter. maybe, but whatever, Overwatch is what we get and it's pretty cool for what it is. mostly shooters don't interest me much these days, but this one has got me hooked.
the Open Beta is now closed until the May 24th launch day. and from what i saw at dreamhack over the weekend everyone is hooked. it was the most played game of the convention, and everyone was raving about it. definitely going to be picking this one up on launch day. i can't wait to play as Mercy again, my best game i got an 8 kill streak. as a healer. i also healed for 40% of damage taken which got me play of the game when i resurrected half my teammates then killed 3 opponents with my pistol then boosted a dps to get some assists before taking out 2 people flanking us. an 8 kill streak as a healer also healing and rezing felt pretty fucking awesome.

i know, right? i mean Overwatch isn't exactly the most original concept ever, but then again blizzard isn't known for original ideas, but they are known for taking neat kinds of established gameplay and dialing it up to 11. they didn't invent the isometric RPG, but diablo is widly considered one of the best and might be the most well known. blizzard didn't invent the RTS, but they redefined the genre with StarCraft which is the only game of its type to still be played professionally. blizzard didn't invent the MMO either, but WoW is arguably the most successful game of all time and has never even been threatened by the competition. Even Heros of the Storm is considered by many to be the superior MOBA (it's supposedly more mechanically rich and complex.) Blizzard has a great reputation when it comes to ripping off games, they tend to make them really, really good and in most cases better then the games that inspired them. i doubt they'll come up with anything really new, but what they do come up will probably end up very polished and fun.

i never played it, but i've seen gameplay. no idea if it was any good, but it looks like a lot of work went into it compared to some other platformers at the time

It's fairly fun, the controls can be tedious, though. Just like most games that used that style.

Probably because she never bothered trying to get info movies. You like a woman who just settled for being in a video game, right? Wouldn't want them getting ideas above their station!
