Topic: The 80's was one of the best times for pop music.

Catherine !TGirlYJKXM started this discussion 10 years ago #52,029

Whenever I go to the 80's radio stations on any music streaming services such as Pandora, Spotify, or Amazon Prime. It is always a great song I love playing right after one another whereas the 90's station might have a few in-between that just doesn't sound quite right to my eardrums. Why does it seem like the 80's were a great height for everything in America with everything before and after looking like utter trash?

We're now remaking classic 80's films much like the 80's remade films from the 50's and 60's. How come I love the 80's when I was fucking born in 1990?

Let us have some ambient music with the song that seems to now represent this decade.

How can I even have bias for a decade I didn't even live through though? This doesn't make sense to me. I figured that could be the reason, but don't you have to have lived through it in order to be biased toward it?

Plus I don't love everything 80's, some of their cartoons seem to suck now when spoiled by animation of today. Even though Adventure Time, Steven Universe, and Regular Show could be seen as sort of new-80ish.

I don't think you understand the 80s if you think new cartoon network is remotely 80s

There is wealth of recorded music from over a hundred years now. The great stuff isn't necessarily very popular at the time though. For me, the later half of the 1980s saw the hit music turn largely to shit while the interesting stuff was to be heard on the independent labels, stuff you might hear on BBC programs or US college radio. The 1990s saw a time when hit music got more interesting as some rave/techno and alternative rock stuff was absorbed into the major music lables. Then it turned to shit again with the upwell of boy bands and whorebag pop singers for preteens. Music video channels became insufferable and even they have given up showing music as their main programming. But through it all, there is nice stuff to hear. I randomly find nice stuff on youtube and I can't tell what year it even came from and I don't care.

Anyway, in the same vein as the OP tune, try Paul Hardcastle's 19:

And more recent releases in the electronic instrumental style that fits, Lazerhawk - Dream Machine:

You enjoy pop music in the 80s format and don't like it as the culture changed towards guitar music and hip-hop. So you are positively biased towards your music preferences and see that culture shift as pop music going from great to shit when it isn't intrinsically anything but a reflection of the prevailing culture.

Look up Little Boots, no hip hop, very much influenced by 80s dance music. She's also modern, started recording in 2009.
