I believe that time is a continuum. There is already evidence that an event in the future effects an event in the past. It happens on the quantum level. If you think of time as a dimension of space (which it is) then 2 objects are related by distance --as with time 2 events are separated by a distance. But the two events exist simultaneously (technically all events exist simultaneously) and are only separated from one another by various distances. As we move through that dimension (time) those distances change and we experience this movement as the passing of time and causality of events. The reason that we experience time as only passing in one direction (past to future) is for the same reason that galaxies rotate, clusters form, and the universe accelerates expansion: there are unidentified and massive structures that act universally on all things in the universe influencing motions on a galactic scale and pulling us all along in the same direction in time.
