those are actually illegal to use for self defense in most states. in texas it'll get you manslaughter, you can easily kill someone with those. if all you do is hurt them you'll still be looking at jail time. basically they are legal to own and you can call them a keychain if you like, but as soon as you use it the judge will say, "that's a gnarly set of brass knuckles you had there. 3-5 years."
better to just carry a handgun, tbh, less likely to go to jail for using it in self defense.

Well, to be fair, it's Texas, guns are a sacred tenant of life there. To rule against a man using a gun in self defense would be political suicide.

No, I've bought like 5 or 6 different knuck/multitools so far. You have to accessorize ofc.
3ET makes cool stuff. Although my favorite knuck/prybar is probably the BeerRambit right now by 'Lake, Country, Knife, and Tool'.
It is absolutely illegal to use it as a self defense tool here. Even the manufacture of 'metallic knuckles' is illegal here. It's a bit of a gray area when it comes to having a concealed weapons license, but the general consensus is they're neat, they're fine as bottle openers, hex wrenches, prybars, whatever, but just get a gun instead and you'll be better protected under the law in most areas. Of course the law is pretty clear on what is and isn't lawful use there too.

uh, no, we were told that by a texas state judge. a buddy's dad. like, 3 years ago. lol. any kind of fist weapon like that falls under the same category of illegal weapon as brass knuckles. you can buy and sell them here as "key chains", "bottle openers," and anything else as long as it's not called a weapon. but, those things are specifically illegal to use for self defense. in fact what he said was, "i'd look at those and say, 'those are some nasty looking brass knuckles you got there,'" regardless if the defense was calling it a "keychain" or not.
more positive squeegee double-posted this 10 years ago, 4 minutes later, 6 days after the original post[^][v]#673,491
Texas does not make " weapons" unlawful to possess. We have specific laws that outlaw specific weapons. Penal code 46.02 proscribes the carry of handguns, illegal knives and clubs. See 46.01 for definitions.
46.05 makes knuckles, switchblades and various firearms and explosive devices and chemical dispensing devices unlawful sell or posses.
if it looks like brass knuckles they call it brass knuckles.
Sec. 46.05. PROHIBITED WEAPONS. (a) A person commits an offense if the person intentionally or knowingly possesses, manufactures, transports, repairs, or sells:
(1) any of the following items, unless the item is registered in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record maintained by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives or classified as a curio or relic by the United States Department of Justice:
(A) an explosive weapon;
(B) a machine gun;
(C) a short-barrel firearm; or
(D) a firearm silencer;
(2) knuckles;
(3) armor-piercing ammunition;
(4) a chemical dispensing device;
(5) a zip gun; or
(6) a tire deflation device.
(b) It is a defense to prosecution under this section that the actor's conduct was incidental to the performance of official duty by the armed forces or national guard, a governmental law enforcement agency, or a correctional facility.
(c) Repealed by Acts 2015, 84th Leg., R.S., Ch. 69 , Sec. 2, eff. September 1, 2015.
(d) It is an affirmative defense to prosecution under this section that the actor's conduct:
(1) was incidental to dealing with a short-barrel firearm or tire deflation device solely as an antique or curio;
(2) was incidental to dealing with armor-piercing ammunition solely for the purpose of making the ammunition available to an organization, agency, or institution listed in Subsection (b); or
(3) was incidental to dealing with a tire deflation device solely for the purpose of making the device available to an organization, agency, or institution listed in Subsection (b).
(e) An offense under Subsection (a)(1), (3), (4), or (5) is a felony of the third degree. An offense under Subsection (a)(6) is a state jail felony. An offense under Subsection (a)(2) is a Class A misdemeanor.
(f) It is a defense to prosecution under this section for the possession of a chemical dispensing device that the actor is a security officer and has received training on the use of the chemical dispensing device by a training program that is:
(1) provided by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement; or
(2) approved for the purposes described by this subsection by the Texas Private Security Board of the Department of Public Safety.
they keep it pretty loose so it can be interpreted as anything that fits into knuckles, which will exclude any kind of "thing" that has holes for fingers and sits on your hand like brass knuckles. if you use it as a weapon, you're breaking the law. in texas.

Seems like they're actually more stringent there than in FL. FL specifies 'metallic' knuckles. Not that non-metallic knucks/knuckledusters will look much better in to a cop or later on in front of a judge.
I've seen them made out of old skateboard decks, G10, micarta, various woods/polymers, combinations of the aforementioned. It started out as niche market in the EDC community, but it's sort of blowing up. Of course old school knuckle dusters are still around too whether as metal or plastic 'paper weights', etc.

combing through public records sounds pretty boring. i'll just link to you an attorney who has a lot of experience defending these kinds of weapons charges in texas. i'm sure if you're ever in need of them they'll be happy to try and use your incredulity as a defense. it won't work here though since the law in very much interpreted to mean almost anything you can hold in your hand.

i would, but the new version just recently went live and i'm waiting for all the mods i need to get new versions out. until then i'm playing World of Warcraft. want to hear about how my shaman is going?
my shaman is going great. she's awesome. got her up to the level cap, 100, over the weekend. leveling was a snap. she remained pretty geared throughout. i didn't raid with her in the previous expansion, so she was shit geared in the very beginning. but, my warrior is a max level blacksmith and my rogue is a max level leather worker, so as soon as i could get my shaman to a mailbox i sent her 5 crafted epics. the stat boost she got with what is technically a raid tier of equipment made her pretty OP. things didn't really get to be hard until i got to the level 100 area. everything is an elite there, and most things aren't easily solo-able. though a lot of it IS soloable with my shaman. not sure my rogue can solo some of the shit my shaman can get away with. shamans are... really fucking survivable. not as much as a druid, but close i think.
I've decided to go ahead and raid her now. pretty much as soon as i dinged 100 i started running dungeons and collecting Superior gear, it only took about 4 runs and i had the gear for Heroics. after that i only had to run 2 heroic dungeons and i grabbed up enough Epics to raid. sure, several pieces are the Crafted Epics i made so that saved some time. but it's nothing like it used to be. When i dinged 80 in WotLK it took a week to farm for Superior gear and then several more farming Heroics for Epics. probably too at least a month before my rogue was raid ready. took my shaman like 4 hours in WoD. kinda sad. i've never seen so many welfare epics. so i'll end up queuing for HighMaul sometime this week and start checking out the raids. i've heard there are some fun fights, but if the dungeons are anything to go off of i'm thinking it's going to be very straight forward.
i wonder how long before i'm raiding mythic. in WotLK i never personally got the unlock for Heroic Raids. everyone who downs the Lich King in Normal mode unlocks the heroic version. mythic is new, but i presume to unlock mythic you have to down heroics. i'll need to continue to gear up to get into the final raid, and then with one week lockouts it would be a minimum of two weeks. with needing to still continue to gear, idk. if it keeps going like it's been going then i'll unlock every raid this week and maybe even down them all. i know it's so late in the expansion that everyone is just farming raids, i kind of expect the carrying to be strong. i hear mythic is the only tier that people still struggle with but that people farm that for an epic mount, so.
i guess i shouldn't let the accessibility bother me, it's so late in the game everyone is practically done. anyway, probably only going to run my shaman through the grinder. i have no desire to gear up more than one toon per expansion. unless it's just super fucking cake then i might run my rogue. try and see which class i can do the best with these days. but i think my rogue is going to open an Inn and hire treasure hunters to run missions and try and get as rich as she can. she's getting old, and she went blind battling the lich king, so i think she deserves a nice comfortable retirement from raiding.
tl;dr things are going better than expected, and maybe even possibly better than that. and my rogue went blind when the Lich King made a Valkyrie pick her up and throw her off a cliff. no one tried to help me and it had happened so many times that i couldn't believe what i was seeing, and from there on out she wears a blindfold because it made her go blind. she almost went deaf, too, when our lead tank told us he was quitting the game and then the guild disbanded, but i couldn't find anything to cover her ears as well.

When I was 11 and I played WoW this friendly lady helped me go into a hostile area to tame a raptor for a pet. When I politely inquired as to what she did she said she was a zoology student. I asked what zoo she might want to work in when she graduated, and she replied saying that zoos are morally reprehensible and that she'd never deign to work in one. I was deeply ashamed for months. I stopped playing after that because WoW is for children and autists and vyvanse addicts.
But if that bitch never worked in a zoo it's because she never got a job. Silly zoology major.
