Topic: Diet Coke has zero calories. Black coffee? Zero calories. But what about a NEGATIVE calorie drink?

Metæ started this discussion 10 years ago #51,744

Yes, fora, I discovered a drink, cheap, easily obtainable with -18.5 calories per glass.

Are you ready? ARE YOU FUCKING READY?!

Ice water!

If you go to http://www.endmemo.com/physics/specificheat.php and do the specific heat calculation, we see it takes 18.5 calories to bring 500mL of water from 1 degree Celsius (just above freezing) to 37 degrees Celsius (body temperature). If you drink 2L of ice water a day you burn 74 calories with zero effort. The science is absolutely airtight on this one.

It's interesting to think of calories as heat and not just a dietary thing. I bet cold showers would burn calories too by forcing the body to burn more calories to replace lost heat.

> The idea that drinking cold water must burn more calories developed from the belief that our bodies expend energy to warm up. It is true that your body will work to raise its temperature to 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit, but it will only expend about eight calories to do this. Eight calories is the equivalent of a small pickle.

A guilt free pickle a day? Nice!

For water to be raised from 1 to 37 degrees Celsius, it takes 37 calories per liter. That is, in fact, 4.6 pickles per liter. This is basic physics.

And our body does not produce heat as waste, right?

Would it?

Instead of pooping, you could just go really hot for a few moments.

???? Why do you think you get warm when exercising

Actually that's a good point. Any calories you poop must be deducted, too. Between pooping and drinking ice water I bet you could deduct at least 200 calories a day!

Why would you exercise when you could just drink ice water??

It's a self-defence thing, I think.

Fidgeting burns calories. Drum your feet or fingertips.
