As somewhat expected, the boss of Black Lotus eventually decided to stab me in the back, give up on their promises and cave in to the trolls, being extremely unreasonable about it all. Just as with PRQ (who didn't do a thing about a DDoS attack for three weeks or even respond to me at all, until I was forced to move as the site was to remain offline indefinitely in their incompetent hands), he didn't technically kick AT out, but in practice, by demanding random censorship of legal discussions (while ignoring the abusive customers) in a way which very obviously and without any doubt purely served to get rid of AT. Trust me: it was not a real choice and I wouldn't have any respect for a site admin who gives up on his core values, just as I have absolutely zero respect for subhumans who lie and stab others in their back.

So: I simply cannot host the damned board anywhere on this planet, unless I somehow manage to afford my own data center, ISP and enterprise-grade equipment. I'll try to make that happen ASAP, but it's not easy. I've known for quite some time that AT was never going to make money on its own, and requires massive external backing in some way. If one of you were an eccentric billionaire, you would've stepped up by now. Truth to be told, I really did honestly believe that a major anonymous supporter (who naturally would get to remain anonymous if he/she so wished) would step up at some point and save the best forum on the Internet from this very sad fate.

The worst part is perhaps that I'm fairly sure that with steady donations from you, I could've afforded a much better server and DDoS protection, and thus the greedy fuck running Black Cunt (actually, the main employees were always very competent and friendly, so the only bad thing I can say about them is that they work for the devil) might very well have not started harassing me as AT would've been a good customer, bringing in lots of green ones for him to swim around in and masturbate to.

Just getting this minimal page online alone has been a little hell. With so little money to spend, zero financial support and no contacts, everything is just really, really difficult.

And before you send me any well-meaning, naive suggestions for alternate hosts: spare yourself the effort; I'm not interested in hearing it. I'm now 100% sure that there is simply not a business on this planet which not only accepts AT and wants to deal with the fucktards harassing them 24/7, but who are also able to mitigate all kinds of massive and nasty DDoS attacks (99% of the companies offering DDoS protection lie, and the rest cost a literal fortune and/or won't accept AT), and who also are sufficiently competent when it comes to DC security and just trustworthy and "stable" in general. There just is no such thing. Simple as that. That's why I have to do it myself, just like I've done everything else on my own, from physically carrying the first self-built server back and forth, hoping it wouldn't rain, showing up at the bank as soon as they opened to make a payment to weird Russian guys, to (for a couple of weeks once between two real hosts) actually hosting the board inside a virtual machine inside a consumer netbook running on consumer mobile broadband, which had gone by its limit long ago and was pushing out 20 kB/s or so tops, all the while receiving sometimes-more-often-than-weekly "Your account has been suspended" letters from various services, mixed in with death threats. Yes, I've truly been in numerous really bizarre situations throughout these years of trying to get the world to accept and praise the most unique Web site (or website, but I don't like that spelling) ever created. I could write a book about it, but there is no time. As I'm typing this, already almost a week has passed since it was forced offline for the latest, and last time. I have to hurry up so you don't forget AT. I couldn't have more motivation for this final gasp of effort to finally result in success.

Due to the obvious risks, I can't tell the good ones among you about how I'm going to try to make that fortune. All I can say is that it has absolutely nothing to do with AT in any way. Please don't contact me about it.

It might take some time of painful waiting, but when AT comes back, it will be as stable and fast-loading as Google used to be (but not nearly as evil, of course); practically unsinkable. You will love the AT run by a wealthy, independent Sysop, and those who stayed loyal will be rewarded. I don't forget fucktards, but I also don't forget good deeds. The entire board currently rests on an offline backup medium (verified to work), physically hidden at a secret location, and will one day be restored as if nothing had happened. Don't throw away your ID backups. Keep them secure. Think of this as the board being in a coma, or in cryopreservation. Just be patient.

I really can't understand his hatred for the Oxford comma. It is conventionally considered the correct thing to do. My MLA stylebook insists on using it, and I always see it used in print, which suggests that AP requires it too. Like the old joke goes:

You'd also have to use web development "best practices", as dictated by him.

My mistake. MLA still says to use it. I personally like it -- like anon M said, it just looks nicer, and it also makes the sentence less ambiguous. Omitting the Oxford comma would imply that the last two items of the sequence are grouped together.

The optimism is what scares me. Sometimes you just need to give up, and that's not being pessimistic. Sometimes the glass is half full and sometimes it's just plain empty. No where does he say that he's giving up or admit where he went wrong. He goes ona rant about basically starting his own internet fortress to run his shitty website. A true optimist would acknowledge where things went wrong, admit what mistakes they've made, think about how they can improve and do things differently and move forward from there. I'm guessing he was talking about his recurring fantasy where he has money and major advertising deals pouring in and can sustain a massive amount bandwidth from his private data center. As it was, a few guys running bots could keep the site slow and glitchy for weeks on end, and it only took a few people running simple scripts to flood his moderation queue. Even if he could have grown the site over time and expanded the userbase while seeing an income that could sustain more traffic, he couldn't micromanage every post and reply the way he wants with a large amount of traffic. I'm sure his head would have exploded had he actually had thousands of new topics every hour.
