Looked this up.

The eight-day festival of Passover is celebrated in the early spring, from the 15th through the 22nd of the Hebrew month of Nissan.

Is the month of Toyota before or after the month of Nissan?

Friday I celebrated with a huge Shrimp salad. I was not aware it was the beginning of Passover. I will however break open a new box of Matzos for a snack later this evening. Maybe some smoked Oysters because they go really well with Matzos.

Saturday noon I celebrated Buddha's birthday in a Buddhist temple and ate a bowl of Yokohama Udon, it did have a smidgen of pork in it.

It can't be THAT bad. You just eat matzo and drink some Manischewitz and express gratefulness for not being enslaved in Egypt, right?

> drink some Manischewitz

The ultimate proof that bad wine can make it to market . Rumors have it that they just put it in small bottles and sell it as cough syrup to get rid of the excess.

I used to drink the blackberry one on occasion. I actually would only drink the Kosher for Passover version because the regular one is sweetened with corn syrup and apparently corn isn't allowed for passover so they use real sugar for that one.

No no no there is a whole spiel in the haggadah about the Jews and the haroset and the maror and the egg and the matzo and the questions and the prayers etc. It never ends.

Yea Corn is not allowed during Passover. I guess Jesus did not have corn on the cob for his passover dinner.

Today on the news - Super Rabbis made Medical Pot legal for Passover.

I particularly disapprove of Christmas lights, because they get their origin as a shameless marketing ploy.

Christmas lights were invented by notable asshole, Thomas Edison. He first hung them from his laboratory in Menlo Park. He did this as a way of advertising, and selling his relatively new invention, the light bulb.

Thus, a holiday tradition was created off of a commercial ploy. Thomas Edison becomes richer, while continuing to try his damnedest to discredit notable genius, Nikola Tesla.

Do you dislike all electric lights?

Anonymous G replied with this 10 years ago, 6 minutes later, 2 hours after the original post[^] [v] #670,735

@previous (kook !!mCVqftDha)

No. The point is, light bulbs would have made their way to mainstream regardless of making a holiday tradition out of them.

So, I don't hang Christmas lights, simply because it's like carrying on the advertising ploy started by Edison.

I don't even put up a tree, my family has moved toward using an "A Christmas Story" leg lamp, in place of a tree. We place the lamp on a table, and gifts go around the lamp.

Anonymous G replied with this 10 years ago, 8 minutes later, 3 hours after the original post[^] [v] #670,750

Not really, the only "seasonal" dish that we make every year is a gelatin based cranberry salad. Last year, we had chicken enchiladas as our main dish.

Usually for Christmas Hispanic's if they are Mexicans eat Christmas Tamales. Filled with sweet stuff like Pineapple. I never could get my head around such Tamales.

Or Chile Rellenos, which are always terrific.

No, the main roots of my heritage are Germanic on my mom's side of the family, and English on my Father's. I'm native New Mexican, though. So, green chile is a cornerstone of my diet.
