Yes! Hurricane Sandy really fucked the northeast. My parents had to basically block all the doorways into the kitchen and used the stove for warmth for like a week or two. I was only there for a little bit but it looked awful.

Somewhere I read that if you lose electricity, you can rub two sticks together to make fire.
With fire all one needs to do is connect wires to any two dissimilar metals. A fork and just the bare end of a wire works super well.
