Let's say I can salvage all the other parts I need from old computers. Would you pay ~$500 for a computer with these parts? Also, is all this compatible?

I don't think that PSU has anything other than HD and motherboard plugs. None for your graphics card.

-Nevermind, didn't see that it had four peripherals. It may have all the connections to handle everything, but I wouldn't risk it, myself.

PCI-e 3.0 is coming out this year, so if you want good support for all the shiny new cards that will be coming out, get a motherboard with a PCI-e 2.1 slot; the graphics card you've selected is even liek "plz don't put me in a boring PCI-e 2.0 slot!"

I would not skimp on the power supply. Get an Antec Earthwatts PS or maybe one from Corsair.

I think the rebate offer expires today, so it's $30 more. Plus I was wanting one with D-SUB output (can't find a 6850 with one), as I have no monitors other than televisions with HDMI or DVI.

Probably not a whole lot.

Yes. A lot of the features being added for 3.0 are already there in 2.1 slots, so PCI-e 3.0 cards will be mostly backwards compatible with 2.1 slots.
