Like a setting on the dashboard. Put a maximum number of posts per page, or keep all on one page.

Hell yeah.
I would have it so it's one page per post. That would kick ass.

This would improve usability a lot.
But we don't use a shitty BBS for usability. 500 post threads are supposed to crash your browser.
