Black metal: shit occult music
Death metal: potentially good music
Metalcore: Guilty pleasure music
Deathcore: Guiltier pleasure music
Grindcore: garbage

Those were interpretations, not definitions. I asked for definitions. Succinct ones please. Thanks.

Loud noise.
Louder noise.
Very loud noise.

Noise has lots of value. I make my living with various degrees of noise.

My list is not in topic order.

Sadly not a real genre of music.

The differences are smaller within genres and subgenres than between different ones. All of them have harsh vocals and heavily distorted guitars, with a lot of double bass drum kicks.

Black Metal: Usually has pagan/satanic/spooky themes. Usually low production quality and is "harsher" (in my experience) than the other genres. Tends to be "atmospheric". I hate this genre so I don't know much more about it. Check out burzum for the traditional sound I guess

Death Metal: A big umbrella term IMO. Harsh/crushing tones. Blast Beats. Beyond that, there's a lot of variation.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KZQNxWjgao Spheres of Madness - Decapitated (Standard Death Metal)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMfGmy715xE Apocalypse Feasting - Brain Drill (Technical Death Metal)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5IVjtE5Gwo Kingborn - Fleshgod Apocalypse (Symphonic Death Metal)

Metalcore: Relies more heavily on breakdowns. Can have "catchy" riffs sometimes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUqfe_3QO60 Idols and Anchors - Parkway Drive
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPmvb-LRu2w Paradox - August Burns Red
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-QaFWURsMU Unholy Confessions - Avenged Sevenfold

Deathcore
As the name implies, a cross between Death Metal and Metalcore. Basically, death metal + breakdowns. A genre that is pretty awful. The only band I like from it is All Shall Perish (aka deathcore for people who don't like deathcore)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_uUPKdDiHU The Price of Existence (Album) - All Shall Perish (Their only good album)

Grindcore: Someone running a cat through a blender while rubbing their dick all over their drop-Q tuned br00tal 8 string guitars. Total shit. 0 redeeming social value.
