And frankly I am not too sorry for the Russians having US forces on their border, after the Russians flew a nuclear-capable jet near where I live. They should not have given other countries an overt reason to be cautious of them.

Sure, in the short run it choked Russian economy, but for Putin, a small price to pay in the long run.
Now the drama is unfolding. The anti-Putin/anti-Russia propaganda that peaked last few months. And now Panama Papers, being such a one-sided leak.
History is repeating itself. Once Russia has been made to look bad enough in the eyes of the public, an invasion or at least some good ol' "spreading democracy" will be totally acceptable.

now could we end up in conflict or go to war over something? sure. but we wouldn't set foot there. we'd sooner fight each other over syria or something, but trying to "invade russia" isn't going to happen. not only is our army too small to hold anything there, there's no reason at all to even want to hold russia for anything.
