Should cat ladies that carry out this despicable practice of maiming their cats and leaving them defenseless for the sake of their furniture have their poor crippled cats removed and rehomed to more loving families that would care for these injured animals?

It's fine. If you keep your cats wheree they need to fight bears, then you've got another problrm. Most of the harm is caused by the cats outdoors killing hte wildlife.

If we were to get a kitten today, we wouldn't declaw it, but we would give it plenty of scratching posts, etc, to spare furniture.
