alternatively first connect to freenode, register an account (/msg nickserv register YourPassword [email protected]), then later on you identify as it with (/msg nickserv id YourPassword). After you have an account registered join #freenode and ask "can i have a cloak please" and wait until an oper gives you one. at that point, as long as you are identified as your account, your IP will be hidden. /whois YourNick to confirm, if you want. The line "is connecting from" is only shown to you, not other people. What you want is the first line, where it shows, for example, r04r@unaffiliated/r04r
