Did not even know he was famous for philosophy.
He was a serious mathematician and published a terrific paper that ended up producing some great Si Fi stuff in regards to his Brain in the Vat/Jar stuff.
Very few PhD science guys publish papers where a Mad Scientist ends up as a scenario.
