fucking flu. worked most of wednesday before showing symptoms, and then thursday i was sick as a dog. i called in and they told me to take a day or two but i'm pretty stir crazy now and tbh i was feeling a lot better. so i got up this morning, showered and went to work. i literally felt worse and worse with each step i took and by the time i got to work i was back to feeling like absolute shit and i looked clammy and sick and pale. i made it as far as my office but didn't get a chance to settle in before my boss told me to go home. i feel kinda bad becuase no one wants to be exposed to the flu so i really shouldn't have gone in, but i'm so fucking bored. at least i feel kinda better today and i might feel like doing something productive, the last 2 days have been shit, all i've done is sleep and watch tv.

It's been going around here too, although at least they have the sense to send you home. I've worked at places that just didn't give a fuck, and then suddenly, it's a skeleton crew because almost everyone is sick. Hope you're feeling better, bud.
Just chug some cough syrup and crack open a book or put on an audiobook. I'm a sucker for audiobooks when I'm sick. Don't pirate audiobooks though, that's bad.

My wife is a nurse at a home too and she's never been sent home when sick either. Although she has a bunch of sick days stacked up. Enough for a mini vacation.

Oh, like the gambian rats? When I was younger, we called them 'wolf rats', no idea why, but I haven't seen one in person for quite some time. Although we still have them here in this part of FL though. Still, that uh, can't be good for the residents.
The worst part about the place she works is while the nurses are paid fairly, they pay around min. wage for CNAs, so it's impossible to keep CNAs, and they have a huge turnover rate, so of course they're perpetually understaffed and have LPNs and RNs pulling CNA shifts, even with census being high. Their new DoN is just really... bad at the job. I'm sure the numbers look okay, but the reality isn't so great and patients suffer for it. Not to mention they're paying around 2-4x what a CNA would make for the same work when they use nurses to fill those voids, but they're just doing whatever they can to keep it legal, while being understaffed.

Theyve been making nurses do cna work here lately as well. Also several of the nurses has been participating in a major med error for weeks. I'm very worried that we will be shut down

That's no good. What was the med error and are they repeating it, or are med errors just happening more than they should?
I hope the state doesn't shut you guys down, but it's hard to say, I've seen places that should by all rights be shut down and never have anything happen to them.
One of their supervisors was escorted out by police recently. She would borrow the keys to the cart when nurses took a break, "just in case a patient needs their PRN meds" and would go on to give a shit ton of PRN narcs to as many residents as she could, which she was pocketing. I mean, I'm not judging too harshly, I've done my fair share of drugs and liberated some, but I'd never take drugs away from a patient, that just crosses the line for me. Anyway, there haven't been any major disasters here, but there have been at least 2 or 3 people escorted out by police, including the last DoN. The staffing issue has been ongoing off and on for a few months now.

Regardless of the circumstances, the nurses signing for the meds could still end up in front of the board having to explain their actions, and it is something that could get them suspended or worse. I mean, they do have a choice not to sign for something that isn't there. It's their license on the line when they do something unethical, and no supervisor, DoN, employer, etc can force them to sign off on that. If there are repercussions for not signing off on something that isn't there, they could bring down a real shitstorm on the facility and management. Without knowing the backstory, I would just advise the nurses to go with their gut here.
Is it a private home or a part of a larger corporation? You might see if there's an ethics hotline for HR if it's a corp

I'm not sure how many nursing home, rehab centers, hospitals, clinics, etc you have there, but there are a ton here. I would think it shouldn't be too hard to have another gig lined up, but I wouldn't fault you for taking a mini-vacation if it was shut down, but I doubt it will be.
If nurses are being instructed or threatened by the DoN, supervisors, etc, so they'll falsify documents, then corporate will probably terminate the powers that be and replace them with someone else.

It's because someone isn't receiving a medication that they need and nurses are falsifying documentation. Which is very illegal.
