well, if i claim that i jumped over a building i'd need to prove it, i wouldn't be asking people to prove i didn't. but if i actually provide overwhelming evidence (such as literally jump a building in front of the entire world) and have tens of thousands of people (such as engineers, family, and the astronauts themselves) provide first hand accounts of witnessing the jump then i've provided plenty of evidence. it's only when people refuse to acknowledge the presented evidence that they ask for assurances otherwise. tbh what is an oath on a bible going to prove that hundreds of hours of recording, video and telemetry (as well as witness accounts) don't.
it's a failure to understand the evidence enough to appreciate it for what it is, proof of the truth.

@658,772 (squeegee)Those missions were a huge deal when was growing up. I never worked on any aspect of those missions. I hired many who worked for NASA and worked on the missions. Shocked me on how few I could pull out of retirement to cruise the world to work on my projects and I paid wayyyyyy more than they ever got from NASA
This Surveyor which was built at Hughes Aircraft - Anyone who worked there and that was maybe 35,000 at the time could just walk on by as it was being built. Just a plastic sheet keep people from touching it. I got to design one tiny circuit for it after it was already to be launched and they found a glitch that needed fast fixing - Only had to work for a couple of minutes at the most.
Surveyor was in fact the device to prove the Moon was not made out of Green Cheese. There was great fear the surface of the moon wood not support any real weight - Surveyor did sink a bit more then expected but turns out other landing places wood have turned out more firm.
Still sad re working with one key engineer who designed the single most important part of all GEO satellites - He even schemed to talk the company in2 getting in2 GEO biz - Never could figure out why he committed suicide just after total success.
There are some fun stories about missions prior to Surveyor - Rockets to moon to photo close up the surface to find the best spot to land. How a camera lens protector that was supposed to be pulled by hand at the very last minute was not pulled - Several missions with the same results - Lens caps left on.
