They are literally retarded. The Moon is round. When there is a crescent Moon, that is the Earth's shadow on the Moon. If the Earth was flat it wouldn't cast a shadow on the Moon.

when you ask them to expand on the concept beyond just the earth being flat it all starts to get really creepy. like, just ask them why there's a conspiracy and a flat earth and all of that. you get everything from "human zoo for aliens" to "this is one of the planes of hell"

A few of them do. I watched one video which said that the Earth was one of numerous flat discs embedded in an eternal plane of ice. Each disc-world has its own cosmic dome, and the distances between one world and the next can be measured in thousands of miles. For this reason, extra-terrestrial visitors wouldn't need faster-than-light transport once they figure out a way of escaping their domes.
