Topic: A pdf file for everyone you know = virtuous?

Denmark guy !jJEom8Ii3E started this discussion 10 years ago #50,515

Sometimes teachers would have you write things down and say it was so you would remember better.

If we remember people better, then we know them better and if we know them better then we can know and understand them much more.

Therefore it's okay to have pdf files about the people you know.

Denmark guy, please do tell me more about your stalking practices.

What about .docx files?

Doesn't sound as sexy as pdf files

there's nothing sexy about pedophiles.

Well at least the sound of the word is more appealing than docx files.

rO4r keeps detailed files about every poster here.

Too much effort while serving little to no purpose beyond building creep-cred.

And why not just use a tool like BasKet if you're trying to build dossiers or wtfe? You're doing this all wrong, bruh.

why pdf files? those are kind of hard to edit and keep updated. i prefer spreadsheets.

r04r double-posted this 10 years ago, 5 minutes later, 4 hours after the original post[^] [v] #655,446

actually, spreadsheets are honestly kind of shit for this kind of stuff as well. as is anything where you just keep free-form text associated with a name. what you really want is a document database with powerful querying capabilities (so you can, say, get a list of all of your associates with blue eyes between the age of 18 and 30). My choice is postgresql with the recent JSONB extension. keep a few common fields outside of the json like firstname, lastname and an incremental id. the neat thing is that you can go a step further and also keep a separate table to build a social graph. the hard is rendering it in a visually appealing way, though.

Do you print them out and carry them in a binder so when you encounter a friend you can pull their dossier and ask if anything has changed since the last time you spoke?

I would just have an InDesign document with all the info sheets as pages and then export every page as pdf when needed.

Do you think there's a basic set of questions he runs down first... sort of like what he feels like is priority information for these dossiers when running into someone he knows gathering intelligence?

Yeah but how are you going to query it? Having a bunch of information is nice, but kind of useless unless you can work it.

Are you concerned about burglary? What precautions do you take to secure valuables while you're on holiday?
Do you require a babysitter?
Would your children appreciate a gift of free candy?

i would make a leatherbound book with it. a good layout and registry are often just as effective as a search function!

Actually I have very little interest in keeping a journal on everyone I know. I think it is very creepy. I was just sharing effective ways of maintaining such a journal.

@OP
Why not just use Facebook?
