I bet you have heard that we all worship the same God but just in a different way.
Expanding on that idea- have you ever heard it asked why the stories in the Bible remain the same number, why it's as if all the important stuff happened a long time ago and nothing is happening in our current times? Usually the answer is that the important stuff is still happening, that miracles still happen. But why then does the doctrines of so many religion's remain unchanged after so many years?
It's because their idea is a relationship with the right religion and god, anything different is surly not the right thing.
But it's not about the right religion or god, it's about a relationship with God and like all the things we have a relationship with, there is no manual. The relationship evolves on its own and we don't relate to the same thing in the same way.

Everyone holding the same opinion doesn't make it fact. Also I don't think that's a good definition, the Oxford an Merriam-Webster have better ones.

I don't believe it to be a fact. A fact requires an observable, objective way of looking at something which you can't do with ice cream or religion.
There is no way to prove that ice cream is indeed good though most will say it is and there's no way to prove existence of a God but that's alright. You are still free to believe in such a thing.
Denmark guy !jJEom8Ii3E (OP) replied with this 10 years ago, 3 minutes later, 1 hour after the original post[^][v]#652,498
Of course you are free to believe. But my point is that most people believe in truth outside of facts or opinions. They don't need proof for basic human moral beliefs, they believe them to be true anyway and this is good.
So in a way, I disregard the opinion that people should not believe in anything without proof.

Believing to be true = opinion
Actually objectively, provably true = fact
> So in a way, I disregard the opinion that people should not believe in anything without proof.
that's not what I said though. I just said that when you believe in something without proof, it's an opinion. Not a truth.

Well fact is often described as being supported by evidence. Thus people who only believe facts can reveal the truth often criticize the belief in god for lacking in fact or evidence.
So I show them that if only evidence and facts reveal that which is true, they live in a world where they don't think it's true that women should not be raped.

What is with this rape analogy? You repeatedly go back to even though it's making people uncomfortable, and needlessly stalling the discussion.
Are you actively trying to weird people out?
Denmark guy !jJEom8Ii3E (OP) replied with this 10 years ago, 2 minutes later, 1 hour after the original post[^][v]#652,528
The rape analogy is purposely there because even the most skeptical person will throw their commitment to facts and evidence out the Window if it meant they could still believe that rape shouldn't happen as a matter of truth.

So... People saying it makes them uncomfortable doesn't really bother you, then? Better they get over their aversion to rape than you use a different analogy?

@652,525 (Denmark guy !jJEom8Ii3E)
Again...you're just making random assumptions. There are very good reasons for believing that women shouldn't be raped, and yet because you have some weird definitions of opinion, truth, evidence and proof, somehow those good reasons don't exist or don't count. I don't understand your perspective.

@OP > why the stories in the Bible remain the same number, why it's as if all the important stuff happened a long time ago and nothing is happening in our current times?
Yes! As a kid this always bugged me. If you read the bible, it's really exciting stuff: water into wine, people being turned into pillars of salt, global floods, staffs being turned into serpents, seas being parted, plagues, etc but since Jesus left it's been pretty damn boring. This was the main reason as a child I didn't believe it. That, and the fact that every religion is the One True Faith and they can't all be right so most of them have to be wrong.
Anonymous M joined in and replied with this 10 years ago, 44 seconds later, 2 hours after the original post[^][v]#652,536
Well if i used a different analogy that didn't call into question where something obviously believed by all as wrong.... Then they would have no problem claiming they don't believe in what ever i call into question.
So I get them to admit that they also believe in certain moral things as true. If they don't admit it, I throw it in their face that they don't believe something like that women should not be raped etc...
dreamworks skg llc, ltd. replied with this 10 years ago, 6 minutes later, 2 hours after the original post[^][v]#652,547
its a logical reason retard. The law forbidding rape means that it's true people shouldn't rape.
Oh wait I get it. You weren't looking for a practical reason why, you were looking for a moral reason why.
Okay I understand now. Yes, believing that women shouldn't rape is an opinion and based on a persons individual moral sense of what is good and what is bad. There is no such thing as universal fixed morality.
dreamworks skg llc, ltd. replied with this 10 years ago, 3 minutes later, 2 hours after the original post[^][v]#652,559

@previous (Denmark guy !jJEom8Ii3E)
Sure. Let's start with a simple reason. Victims of rape suffer extreme pain, both physical and emotional that lasts for the rest of their lives. What is wrong with that reason? Why is that not sufficient to conclude that it shouldn't be done?
Denmark guy !jJEom8Ii3E (OP) replied with this 10 years ago, 1 hour later, 5 hours after the original post[^][v]#652,612
It's enough for me to conclude that no woman should be raped. But in this conversation, I adopted the position of a man who only concerns himself with the factual but not the religious or belief, so I ask, what facts are there to support the idea that harm and trauma is bad?
