Don't know if there are any other fans of Kotor here these days, but in case there are, this looks really cool:An team of indie developers are remaking Kotor in Unreal Engine 4. They plan to put in modern graphics, an updated HUD, and an optional first-person perspective. They're also looking to restore cut content, as well as tweaking the maps and even adding original content such as new companions and quests and such.

As the Kotaku article points out, projects like this have a tendency to fizzle out before completion. And Disney hearing about this could be trouble. Nonetheless, it seems that the team behind it aren't amateurs, and seem know what they're doing.
Also, since this isn't immediately obvious, you would need a copy of Kotor for the PC to play this.

I sided with them once.
It's surprisingly easy, if you roleplay your character as hating the NCR and/or being a bit of an asshole. But yeah, otherwise I make sure to inflict as much damage as I can on them.

It's become a common trend to remake classic games with the unreal engine or at least try to make them.

Oh, nice. I though you were just referring to the craze of redoing single levels in Unreal 4, but these seem to be aiming to be visual upgrades of those whole games. That's pretty cool.
The project at hand is a bit more extensive, though.

Fan remakes like this succeeding aren't unheard of. Two major ones that come to mind are Morroblivion (Morrowind remade within Oblivion) and that Black Mesa remake of Half Life 1.
