This is truly a fantastic single malt Scotch. However I have friends that do not care for it and when I say do not care I mean NOT AT ALL.
Among the Single Malts its very SMOKY. So it can be a love hate thing.

It's my favorite scotch but it's not for everyone. I would not call it smokey Maybe syntax is thinking of another scotch) at all but rather a little peaty, it has a unique water to it. In fact it's so unique Johnny Depp who is a non drinker is know to buy it just to smell.

I am not any expert on peaty vs smoky. I figure they burn a lot of peat in the production of that Scotch and the smoke from the peat ends up in the Scotch. For sure its a ton more then this one

Funny you should post that, when I was working on Cornwall last month we had some of that at a local bar that did 'lock ins' it was quite nice and being in a small town the prices we cheaper than london.
I know Glenfiddich is a common scotch but that's another favorite and the older they get the better, 12 years is good and the 15 & 18 are equally as good as each other. I plan to get the 21 years at some point when I have more money to blow.

I've been giving a 10 year old Glenmorangie a nudge lately. It's good, but not my favorite

Have never tried the Glenfiddich 18 and think I have only enjoyed the 12. The only Single Malt where I want to be as old as possible is Laphroaig. Somehow they jam the pete in that Scotch as if its going to be equal to the Malt. I am by far from any expert. The best way to find out what one likes is to go to Scotch tastings. Fresh bottles are opened and often its blind tasting from brown paper bags and you take notes and then share in a discussion and then the bag is removed. That way one can discover what one likes irrespective of costs.
I have failed on several re 12 years vs 16 When I preferred the younger. I used to have a huge selection of the best of Scotch n Bourbons, until I discovered that a 1/2 full bottle oxidizes. Changes the taste - does not get bad just different.
So unless you are going to share that 21 year old bottle or plan on consuming it up over say a month - best save money.

Tbh while there is a difference between the 15 and 18 Glenfiddich I think I like the 15 more. Now if you're after a top 12 year old try the glenmorangie 12. It's one of the few 12's that feel like something older
