They don't have to call it, Half Life 2: Episode Three, they could as well call the game something along the lines of Borealis. This way they get out of having to call it Half Life 3 which they probably want to reserve for a completely different story.

I can imagine that Gordon Freeman would meet Cave Johnson in his quest for what they were developing or researching on that vessel.
