He claims to have tested out the Steam controller at GameStop, but only shows an image of a display box. GameStop using has displays for people to check out the latest consoles such as Xbox One and PlayStation 4, but I never seen one that has a Steam Machine with a Steam Controller on display.

Is true for the default configuration. However in the controller configuration menu you can tweak edge spin radius and edge spin speed to enable this behavior.

This is a selling point of the controller. If you do not wish with the configuration, do not buy the steam controller. Note that all these configuration options make it possible to play literally any game with it, even those without controller support. Most games also have pre-made configurations by the developer, and configurations shared by the community which you can start off with. If you consider that too much effort, hit yourself in the head with a brick a few more times and get a different controller.
